If you use vCloud Director, make sure you open port on underlying vCenter Servers. Default port used for connections to ESXi host. In VMware vSphere versions 6.
Note : When you configure firewalls, consider opening port on ESXi hosts even if you add vCenter Server to the backup infrastructure. Port may be required for backup and restore without vCenter Server, for example, if you back up a VM that hosts vCenter Server and restore it when vCenter Server is down.
Port used as a control channel only for jobs that use an ESXi target with the console agent enabled. Additional ports may need to be open depending on your configuration.

Doesn't seem like Veeam can do this out of the box, but I'm hoping someone may know of a way around it? I was hoping Veeam would be our new backup solution, but if I can't backup those files, I may have to look elsewhere.

It's in the business of discerning the fixed local disks and doing image-level backups of that. What about this? Virtual Windows Server. We create a new virtual hard drive. We then host the shared drives on this Windows server instead of the SAN?
Then it should just be like a normal folder in windows, and when we backup the virtual machine via Veeam, it should backup everything right? I'm thinking this way, because we will be getting a new SAN, and will be moving the shared folders anyway.
You should get backup software that supports NDMP. It's simple and industry standard. I assumed that all backup software supported it To continue this discussion, please ask a new question.

Could the OP map a network drive on a Windows box and back that "drive" up using Veeam Endpoint Backup, or does the product only support physically-connected drives?
I found a feature request for this being able to back up removable and network drives but that was a couple years old but wasn't sure if that had made it's way into the product yet or not. It's in my top 3 of personal "El Rickatron Most Wanted" features, but alas not present.

But when i create a job, i can't choose my CIFS repository. I try to create a Network drive on my Veeam "server", but the job failed with a "inccorect user logon " error When i dit it in 2 steps, it work : first job file copy from the distant server to the local veeam machine, and second job, just after the first one, file copy from local veeam to the shared folder network drive.
How could i do to have only 1 job? When i create the FC's job, I don't have in the target list. Only network or Veeam machine. If so, the network drive should be reflected under "this server" in the target settings of file copy job.
But i can choose this one only for the VM's job backup, replication, copy. Not for copy file's job. But i don't want 2 job and no "temporary folder" on the local machine.

The primary task of Backup Copy Job is to copy existing backup data to another disk system in order to restore it later or even to send backup data to an offsite location see the Rule. When initiated, a Backup Copy Job runs permanently in the background and has the following logic:.
The first step in the configuration defines a time window and a point in time at which Backup Copy Job checks for new available backup data:. Figure 1. Job definition. In Figure 1, an interval is set to one day, and the time of a check-up for new available backup data is set to If there is new data available since of the previous day in the backup repository, Backup Copy Job starts transferring the data immediately.
If not, it keeps waiting. This mechanism significantly simplifies the scheduling, as it allows the Backup Job to have more time for data transfer if needed. However, in some situations the Backup Copy Job has to wait for a specific point in time when it can transfer the new backup data.
For example:. Alternatively, starting from version 8, there is a possibility to instruct Backup Copy Job to wait until the new backup data is recorded:. Using this command, you can set the time exactly to and the Backup Copy Job will wait until the Backup Job is completed. Figure 2. Source data. Figure 3. Secondary target in the backup job configuration.Avviso di selezione per incarico professionale c/o il settore
A Backup Copy Job can have multiple sources. If a VM is available from multiple sources, the job transfers only its latest version. A Backup Job can also have multiple secondary targets see Figure 3. After selecting the source sit is necessary to define a target — a Veeam Repository.
Figure 4 shows the possible settings:. Figure 4. Specifying the target. The Backup Copy Job always creates at least a Forward Incremental Forever backup chainthe length of which is defined by the option Restore points to keep. Additionally, there is an option to insert full backup points to the chain for specific days — Keep the following restore points for archival purposes.
Figure 5. Restore points are saved as a full backup. Note: The full backup will not be generated at the configured day for example, the first Sunday of the month! A check-up will be performed first and a full backup will be created only if the check-up reveals new data to be backed up.
